Committee Work
In addition to debating and voting on legislation, Members of the Tasmanian Parliament contribute to the work of parliamentary committees—a vital part of our democratic process.
Committees are smaller groups of Members of Parliament (MPs) appointed to examine specific issues in detail. They allow for focused investigation, and often invite submissions and testimony from experts, stakeholders, and everyday Tasmanians- ensuring that information received reflects the realities on the ground.
Committees scrutinise government actions, spending, and legislation, this helps Parliament make better-informed decisions.
There are many different types of committees at the Parliament of Tasmania, which are constituted differently and have different functions.
